‘Time had taken its toil on the original Burstow Lodge No 4376 banner, which had been presented to the lodge by the Primus Master W.Bro William Bucknell in 1922. The Burstow Lodge of Instruction therefore took the initiative and decided in January 2001 to create the ‘Burstow Banner Fund’. The goal was to raise the necessary funds required to produce new colours and to ensure that the original was properly preserved and housed. This goal was achieved and the new banner was fittingly dedicated at our 80th Anniversary Installation Meeting on 1st May 2002 under the guidance of our Dedicating Officer, W.Bro David Bowen. APGM. This exercise has also enabled us to remember all of our Past Masters whose names did not appear on the original. In order that these Brethren are correctly honoured and remembered, some forty seven additional names have been displayed in sequence on a swathe of matching blue cloth appended in the form of a scroll, below the original banner. This restored Banner now hangs in all its glory in the Wheeler Temple at Oakfield Road. In this way our ‘old colours’ will be reverently housed for posterity and the enjoyment of others, whilst the new will take us striding forward into the 21st Century’

| | Young masons support local charities
Taken from: Surrey Mason Issue 8 Spring 2004
’The Burstow Lodge of Instruction were pleased to present their cheque for £1,000 to the local branch of Cancer Research UK. This donation was the brain child of a young member of the LoI who raised this magnificent amount at his recent charity barbecue.
The Chairman of the local Croydon Committee, took the opportunity to say a few words to the Lodge about the work of Cancer Research UK, and to update everyone about how the money will assist their vital research work. There are many examples where this research has made a real positive difference to people’s lives, and whilst there is much more to do, the progress over recent years has been excellent, and highly encouraging.
The Lodge of Instruction has also decided to support another local Masonic charity, through both individual membership and application by the LoI for Patronage of James Terry Court. This initiative has currently raised some £400 for this worthy cause.’
